Sustainability

We recognise our responsibility for reducing our impact on the environment and operate a range of policies to minimise the use of energy and water, all of which are incorporated into our company policy and site-specific delivery approach. We are proud of the changes we have made, and continue to make, to make Matthews and Tannert more environmentally conscious.

Sustainability in Practice

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we have implemented a comprehensive sustainability strategy that is grounded in four key pillars.

Sustainability drives all levels of our business, from governance to delivery, with KPIs aligned to the HACT Social Value Framework. Our transparent reporting guarantees measurable environmental and social benefits.

Carbon Footprint

One of our primary initiatives company wide is reducing our carbon footprint. Some of the initiatives we have taken to reduce our carbon footprint have included the following:

Over the past 24 months, we have taken significant steps to reduce our carbon footprint, including the addition of 11 fully electric staff vehicles to our fleet.

Along with our company vehicles, we have been working to replace our older and less environmentally friendly trade vehicles.

Beyond upgrading our staff and trade vehicles, we have also focused on the earliest stage of our operations through efficient programming and planning. By strategically scheduling and coordinating our work, we aim to minimise travel time for our operatives and staff, thereby reducing vehicle emissions and our overall environmental impact.

Recycling

As part of our commitment to sustainability, we have implemented a comprehensive waste reduction and recycling program across all our construction sites. To aid waste management, we have implemented a reduce, reuse and recycle system that is used company wide. This was created with the intention of reducing our waste to landfill.

We frequently monitor our waste reports, continuously seeking to improve ourselves in this.

We are especially proud that across the Company as a whole, year to date, only 0.67% of all of our waste created goes to landfill with 99.33% being recycled. We are striving to reduce our waste to landfill figure further to 0.5%.

Sustainable Services and Supplies

To reduce our carbon footprint, we use as much local labour to deliver our works as possible. In addition to this, we utilise local supply chains. Not only does this add value to the community, but it also reduces our carbon footprint from excessive road travel.

We are dedicated to continuously improving our sustainability practices. By regularly reviewing our processes, setting measurable targets, and tracking our performance, we strive to ensure that our company contributes to a brighter future for the environment.
